Sustainability and Innovation Project Week took place at Avicenna International College between 24-28th of April. Preparation for the programs started weeks in advance in order to make this a meaningful event for AIC high school students. Students were divided into groups as a way to strengthen cohesiveness and teamwork of the AIC community, and were given specific topics to research and eventually present to their fellow students.

After years of preparation and hard work, AIC was finally given the opportunity to offer short-term Erasmus+ mobility experiences to our high school students. This semester, fully embarking on this project, we have completed two trips: first to Italy with a group of older students, and then to Ireland with another group of the younger ones. Ten students were selected to spend two weeks in Ireland accompanied by their history teacher, Mr. Mark. Within this short-term Erasmus program, we took part in a so-called “Authentic Irish Experience” project which meant that we were accommodated by local Irish families in Dublin for the duration of our stay and took part in a two-week course provided by Apollo Language Center. The students spent their classes engaging in interactive learning activities with the aim of gaining a deeper understanding of Irish history, language and culture, and also to expand their knowledge and consciousness of intercultural values and European citizenship.

The purpose of the unique Pető method is to provide assistance to children and young adults with motor disabilities originating from the damage to the central nervous system. The András Pető Faculty (PAK) of Semmelweis University, founded in 1950, holds the esteemed legacy of András Pető and serves as a global hub for conductive education. The faculty, led by Dean Dr. Andrea Zsebe Miklósné Tenk, is dedicated to advancing its education programs in both Hungarian and English, fostering collaborations with other higher education institutions. At the end of April, we held our first dissemination event about a new initiative at AIC: Our Model UN Club and shared some insights of our participation in the Model UN – BIMUN Conference. The teachers, Ms. Emese, Mr. Márk, and 5 chosen students have been working assiduously on a so-called ‘Pilot year’ of Model UN and preparing its implementation fully into our annual curriculum and school-year schedule.

In March 2023, Avicenna International College (“Avicenna”) signed a memorandum of understanding with Corvinus University of Budapest. Avicenna is a unique local high school in Budapest, that teaches Hungarian curriculum in English language to predominantly international students. Although the University has more than 250 international partners and works with many of the leading high schools in Hungary, this agreement is the first of its kind for Corvinus. Avicenna International College Hungarian-English Bilingual High School held the Graduation Ceremony of the 2022–2023 academic year on the afternoon of May 4th. During this event the school bids farewell to the graduating high schoolers, and the graduates thank the teachers, staff and school mates for all the joyous memories they shared together.

This April Avicenna International College organised the German Travel and Study programme called Lindau Deutsch camp for the second time in a row. The programme was fully funded by AIC, the students had to pay for their train tickets only. This time around we had 11 GFP students and one high school student from Grade 11 accompanied by Frau Ágota as the leader of German language education at AIC and Herr Steve, AIC principal and Travel and Study programme manager. We are thrilled to share a unique experience that some of the Grade 9 students at Avicenna International College recently had. On a bright and sunny day, these students took their mathematics class outside, in the school yard. The benefits of holding classes outdoors are numerous and well-known. Fresh air, natural light, and a change of environment can help students feel more engaged and focused, leading to improved academic performance. On 4. April AIC took a few Foundation Students from AMFP, BFP and TFP on a free visit to the Parliament. This time, they were guided by an English audio guide on a 45-minute tour of perhaps the most beautiful Parliament in the world. The group of ten, consisting mainly of Persian students and one Russian student, with two escorts, took a direct tram from the AIC building to the Parliament as usual. We are thrilled to announce that the students of Avicenna Medical Foundation program have completed their final exam last week. The exam included both an oral and written component in the subjects of biology, chemistry, and medical terminology.
