Field Trip for Grade12 HFL Students to the Strudel House and the Ethnographic Visitors Center

During their Hungarian as a Foreign Language (HFL) class, Grade12 students learnt about Hungarian culinary traditions as well as city and village life in Hungary. As a follow-up of their classroom activity, on December 11th, 2024, Ms. Erika took the group to a field trip to gain a first-hand experience about these topics.

Students went to Rétesház Restaurant (Strudel House) and had a Hungarian class there, while tasting delicious strudels. Students could also watch on-site the interesting process of how strudels are made.

The class took place in the back room of the restaurant, which is turned into a small ethnographic museum.

During the restaurant experience, the group discussed city versus countryside life, while being surrounded by old, authentic items and tools on the wall, collected from Hungarian villages.

The center is a little museum portraying Hungarian rural life in the 19th and 20th centuries with original artefacts and modern interactive displays.
