AIC had the pleasure to welcome 20 Turkish students and 4 accompanying teacher Colleagues from Kilis on our premises and to spend the whole week together with exciting academic and social programmes from 19 to 23 February for the entire working week. It was an all-time first for us to welcome a group of Turkish high school students at Avicenna.
The Turkish students were placed into 4 different study groups that fitted their age and study profile the best. They attended scheduled classes with Avicenna students in grades 9, 10 and 11 in the morning from 9 am to 12.30pm until lunch break. There was one day which they spent at another school, a VET one to enhance their study experience.
They started the week with an IT Day in our Digital Lab where they were introduced to how to format text on a web page: section, headings, paragraphs, thematic breaks, emphasis. Furthermore, they were also shown how to create lists and links, work with global attributes and add images to web pages. On the other days they attended language and science classes in groups.
In the afternoon we took them out every day on various excursions and city tours: Hero’s Square, the Parliament and its surroundings, the Castle District and an unforgettable day in Buda to visit an important landmark that is a must visit site for the Turks coming to Europe, the Tomb of Gül Baba in the Hills of Roses the area fashionably named after the great Turkish Dervish who first introduced roses and rose plantation to that part of the country.
