Heart Dissection Brings Science to Life for Grade 9 Students on 22nd Oct. 2025

The Grade 9 students at AIC recently had an exciting opportunity to bring their biology studies to life through a hands-on dissection of sheep hearts. This engaging activity was designed to help students explore the anatomy of the heart in a practical and memorable way, allowing them to apply what they have learned in class to a real-life biological specimen.

Working collaboratively in small groups of three, the students carefully examined both the external and internal structures of the heart. They identified the major parts, including the chambers, valves, and blood vessels, and discussed how each contributes to the circulation of blood through the body. With guidance from their teachers, they were encouraged to observe, question, and connect their discoveries to the theoretical knowledge gained during their lessons on the cardiovascular system.

By performing the dissection themselves, students gained valuable insights into the complexity and efficiency of the heart’s structure and function. This practical experience allowed them to connect theoretical knowledge with real-life observation, deepening their understanding of how the heart works to keep living organisms alive and healthy.

Beyond the scientific learning, the activity also fostered teamwork, communication, and curiosity. Many students expressed how fascinating it was to see firsthand what they had only studied in textbooks, and how it made them appreciate the wonders of biology even more.

Learning experiences like these form part of AIC’s creative and efficient STEM education, inspiring students to delve deeper into the marvels of human biology or other related sciences.
