This academic year, one of those details has received particular attention: the student dining experience.

For us, lunch became one of the places to explore that question.
Rethinking One of the Most Familiar Parts of the Day
A school restaurant can easily become a purely functional space.
Students enter, eat and leave.
This year, AIC wanted something more thoughtful.
The dining environment was reconsidered not simply as a place that provides food, but as part of the broader student experience. The aim has been to create an atmosphere that feels more welcoming, organised and connected to the kind of campus culture AIC is building.
The result is AIDA, a renewed dining experience located within the AIC campus.
Its role is simple in everyday terms: give students access to carefully prepared meals in an environment where they can eat, talk, pause and recharge.
But the thinking behind it goes further.
AIDA: When Food Becomes a Form of Care
AIDA was not developed around the idea of food alone.
Its underlying philosophy begins with care.
The concept behind AIDA is that eating well should not become another source of complexity in already busy lives. Students, families and professionals have enough decisions to make every day. A thoughtful food experience can remove one of those small but recurring burdens.
That philosophy is reflected in AIDA’s core promise:

For students at AIC, this translates into something practical.
- Meals should feel considered rather than incidental.
- The environment should feel comfortable rather than institutional.
- The experience should be simple rather than complicated.

Variety Is Part of the Experience
The dining programme has also been designed around variety.
For September, AIDA introduced the idea of:
One month. A different main dish every service day.
Across the month, students encounter different dishes, flavours and culinary influences rather than repeating the same limited choices.
The point is not variety for its own sake.
Food is also social and cultural. For an international student community, the dining table can become another place where students encounter something different, share experiences and connect with one another.
That makes lunch a small but meaningful part of campus life.
From the Dining Space to a Digital Experience
The redesign has not been limited to the physical restaurant.
AIC students also now have access to the AIDA Life digital portal at aidalife.hu, allowing them to see available meals and reserve their choices more easily.
This may appear to be a small technological feature, but it represents an important principle.
Good technology should reduce friction.
Students should not need technology for technology’s sake. A digital service is useful when it makes an ordinary part of their lives simpler, clearer or more convenient.
The same philosophy shapes AIC’s broader approach to educational technology: technology should serve people, not dominate their experience.
With AIDA Life, that principle moves beyond the classroom and into daily campus life.
Students can see what is available, make their choice and plan ahead.
A simple routine becomes a little easier.
Why Does This Matter to AIC?
It would be easy to consider a restaurant, a digital meal portal and an educational programme as completely separate things.
We see them differently.
A student’s experience of College is the combination of hundreds of interactions.
- How they are welcomed.
- How teachers speak with them.
- Whether they feel safe asking a question.
- Whether technology helps or frustrates them.
- Whether spaces feel institutional or human.
- Whether they have somewhere comfortable to sit with friends.
- Whether everyday needs have been considered.
No individual improvement transforms education on its own.

Listening to those answers allows the experience to continue evolving.
This reflects another important part of the AIC philosophy: improvement should be continuous and students should have an active place within the environment being created for them.

Transforming education does not happen through one technology, one classroom or one programme.
It happens when many parts of the student journey begin moving in the same direction.
