A Personal Reflection on Education, Responsibility, and the Future

Summary
Thirty years ago, Avicenna International College was founded with a clear and simple vision: to create an educational environment that is academically strong and deeply human. Over the past three decades, this vision has grown into an international institution that has guided thousands of students from different countries toward successful academic and professional paths.
This journey has not been easy. It has required persistence, responsibility, and a continuous commitment to doing what is right for students, even in moments of uncertainty. What began with a small group of students has evolved into a vibrant international community built on trust, care, and long-term thinking.
Today, as education faces rapid global changes driven by technology, artificial intelligence, and shifting expectations, Avicenna is entering a new phase. The recent transformation and rebranding of the college reflect not a change in values, but a clearer expression of them.
This article shares a personal perspective on this journey. It reflects on the early challenges, the growth of the institution, and the responsibility that comes with shaping young lives. It also offers a forward-looking view on the future of education and the role Avicenna aims to play in preparing students for a complex and evolving world.
A Dream That Became a Responsibility
I always dreamt of creating my own school where I could provide the best education. This dream thirty years ago came true. Back in 1995, a different kind of educational institution was established.
At that time, the idea was simple. I wanted to build a place where education would go beyond textbooks and exams. A place where students are guided, supported, and understood as individuals. What began as a vision gradually became a responsibility.
Students arrived from different countries, often far from their families, carrying hopes and expectations. Parents trusted us with their children. What else could matter more to them. Their trust shaped the way we worked and the decisions we made. This mutual trust created the responsibility. Our school soon became a community where care, discipline, and long-term commitment to students remain in the center of our belief.
The Early Years and the Meaning of Trust
The beginning was not easy.
I still remember our first group of students. There were only seven of them, while the number of teachers and staff was much higher. The environment was modest, and our facilities were far from what we have today.
For many families, trusting such a small and unfamiliar institution was not a simple decision.
And yet, a few families believed in us. They trusted us with the future of their children.
That trust became the foundation of everything we built.
From that point on, every step we took was guided by a sense of responsibility. Not toward growth for its own sake, but toward doing what is right for the students.
Growing With Purpose
Over the years, Avicenna grew steadily.
Thousands of students passed through our classrooms. Many of them are now doctors, engineers, researchers, entrepreneurs, and professionals contributing to societies around the world.
When I look at their achievements, I do not only see results. I see journeys that started with uncertainty and developed through effort, guidance, and support.
This growth was never accidental.
We focused on long-term development. We invested in academic quality, in cultural life, in international connections, and in building a system that supports students as individuals.
We developed our own educational materials. We expanded our facilities. We created international opportunities through partnerships and exchange programs such as ERASMUS. We worked hard to meet respected international standards and obtain national and international accreditations.
Step by step, Avicenna became more than an institution. It became a structured and evolving educational ecosystem.
Education in a Changing World
Today, the world is changing in ways that we could not have imagined thirty years ago.
Technology, artificial intelligence, and global challenges are shaping how people live, work, and think. Students are growing up in an environment that is faster, more complex, and more demanding.
In such a world, education cannot remain unchanged.
We must ask ourselves important questions.
Are we preparing students for the future or for the past?
Are we teaching them what to think or how to think?
Are we helping them adapt or asking them to fit into outdated systems?
At Avicenna International College, we have reflected deeply on these questions.
We believe that students today need skills and competencies that extend beyond simple collection of knowledge. They need the ability to think critically, to adapt, to communicate, and to take responsibility for their own learning, decisions and actions.
This is why we have developed a more flexible and human-centered approach to education which is designed for tomorrow and not yesterday.
A More Human Approach to Learning
In our model, students are not passive listeners.
They are active participants in their own learning journey.
Teachers are not only instructors. They are mentors who guide, support, and understand each student individually.
Education is not designed as a single path for everyone. It is shaped around the needs, strengths, and goals of each student.
We believe that learning must be meaningful, structured, and adaptable. It must prepare students not only for exams, but for life.
Technology With Purpose
Technology plays an important role in today’s education.
At Avicenna, we have integrated intelligent systems and digital tools into our educational model. Through our modular system, we are able to better understand how students learn and how they progress.
However, we are very clear about one principle.
Technology should support education. It should never replace human thinking or human connection.
Artificial intelligence can provide insights and structure. But it is the teacher who guides, and it is the student who must understand.
This balance is essential.
A Moment of Renewal
As we reached our thirtieth year, it became clear that the way we present ourselves should reflect what we have become.
The recent rebranding of Avicenna International College is not a change of identity. It is a clearer expression of our values, our approach, and our direction.
It is a moment of renewal.
A point where we look back with gratitude and forward with responsibility.
A Message to Parents and Students
To our students and their families, I would like to say this.
Education is a shared journey.
It requires communication, understanding, and trust. Each student is different, and each path must be carefully planned.
At Avicenna, we do not believe in one solution for everyone. We believe in listening, in understanding, and in working together to create meaningful educational pathways.
For thirty years, the trust of families has been the foundation of our work. It remains our greatest responsibility.
Looking Ahead
Thirty years is not the end of a journey. It is the beginning of a new phase.
The future will bring challenges that we cannot fully predict. But we know that our students will be the ones facing them and handling them properly.
Our role is to prepare them with knowledge, with skills, and with a determined character.
At Avicenna, we will continue to build an environment where students feel supported, challenged, and inspired.
An environment where education is not only delivered, but lived.
Closing Reflection
When I look back, I feel a deep sense of gratitude.
To the students who trusted us,
To the families who believed in us,
To the colleagues who dedicated their time and energy to this cause.
I especially feel obliged to thank my family. My son, Dr. Arash and my daughter, Dr. Shokooh, who always supported me and contributed to the development of Avicenna International College.
Avicenna is not the work of one person. It is the result of a shared effort over many years.
We have carried this responsibility for thirty years.
And we will continue to carry it, with care, with commitment, and with purpose.
The future is not something we wait for.
It is something we prepare for.
We help shape the best future for our children.
