This May, Avicenna International College (AIC) had the pleasure of welcoming 24 students and four teachers from Marsciano, a town in the Italian region of Umbria near the historic city of Perugia. The visit marked the beginning of a new Erasmus+ partnership, bringing together students from Italy and Hungary for a week of learning, cultural exploration, and international friendship.
The visiting group included both middle school and lower secondary students, all eager to experience life at an international school in Budapest.
A Warm Welcome and an Outstanding Group
From the very beginning, the Italian guests impressed both students and staff with their enthusiasm, kindness, and positive attitude.
International exchanges often reveal the unique character of each visiting group, and the students from Marsciano quickly distinguished themselves through their cooperation, curiosity, and respectful behaviour. Despite their young age, they showed remarkable maturity and genuine interest in every aspect of the programme.
Their teachers were equally supportive and approachable, helping to create a friendly and welcoming atmosphere throughout the week.
Learning Together Across Borders
Each morning was dedicated to lessons and workshops organised jointly with AIC students. Activities focused primarily on languages and science, encouraging participants to collaborate, exchange ideas, and develop communication skills in an international setting.
One of the most rewarding aspects of the programme was seeing students from different backgrounds quickly connect with one another. Although language differences occasionally presented challenges, shared activities and teamwork helped build confidence and foster new friendships.
The workshops demonstrated how international learning environments can inspire curiosity, creativity, and intercultural understanding.
Shared Experiences Beyond the Classroom
Following the academic sessions, students enjoyed lunch together at the nearby university canteen. These informal moments became valuable opportunities for conversation, allowing participants to learn more about each other’s cultures, daily lives, and interests.
Such interactions often become some of the most meaningful parts of an Erasmus experience, helping students develop friendships that extend beyond the classroom.
Exploring the Highlights of Budapest
The afternoons were dedicated to discovering Budapest through a series of guided cultural visits led by Mr Steve, Principal of Avicenna International College.
One of the most impressive experiences was a visit to the Hungarian Parliament Building. Students explored one of Europe’s most iconic landmarks while learning about Hungarian history, traditions, and democratic institutions.
The group also visited the historic Buda Castle District, strolling through its picturesque streets and enjoying panoramic views over the Danube and the city skyline. Another afternoon was spent exploring Deák Square and the bustling city centre, offering students a glimpse of modern Budapest and everyday urban life.
A City Preparing for a Major European Event
During the visit, Budapest was preparing to host the UEFA Finals at the Puskás Arena. The excitement surrounding the event was already visible throughout the city, creating a unique atmosphere for the visitors.
For many students, experiencing Budapest during such a significant international occasion added an extra dimension to their stay and made the trip even more memorable.
An Evening on the Danube
One of the highlights of the week was an evening cruise on the Danube, organised by the Italian group.
As darkness fell, students watched Budapest’s illuminated landmarks pass by from the water. The glowing Parliament building, the beautifully lit bridges, and the vibrant riverside scenery created a truly unforgettable experience.
For many participants, the cruise became the defining memory of the entire exchange programme.
Looking Ahead to Future Cooperation
International exchanges such as this Erasmus+ mobility programme demonstrate the value of education beyond the classroom. In addition to practising languages and exploring academic subjects, students develop independence, cultural awareness, self-confidence, and lasting international friendships.
Avicenna International College is grateful to its new partner school, Salvatorelli-Moneta in Umbria, for their visit and the excellent cooperation throughout the programme.
This first exchange has laid a strong foundation for future collaboration, and both schools look forward to continuing their partnership through many more successful Erasmus+ projects in the years ahead.
