Before the First Lesson: How AIC Prepared for a New Year of Learning

As AIC begins the 2026/2027 academic year, mentors, technology, and a renewed focus on student growth come together to shape a new learning experience.
On September 1, the classrooms and corridors of Avicenna International College (AIC) came alive again.
Students returned. Teachers and mentors welcomed them. New faces met for the first time. The academic team was introduced, expectations for the year ahead were shared, and together, the AIC community officially opened the 2026/2027 academic year.
It was an energetic beginning.
But the story of a new academic year does not begin on the first day of school.
At AIC, it began earlier, with a simple question:
How can we help our students learn better, grow further, and become more?
Preparing People Before Preparing Classrooms
In the days leading up to the new academic year, AIC teachers and mentors came together with Dr. Shahrokh MirzaHosseini, President of Avicenna International College, and the academic leadership team for a series of preparation, alignment, and planning sessions.
Schedules, courses, systems, and responsibilities naturally formed part of those conversations.
But the discussions went further.
The team considered the individual needs of students, the challenges they may face during the year, the role of mentorship, and how teachers can better support both academic progress and personal development.
This reflects an important principle behind AIC’s educational philosophy: students should not simply receive information. They should become active participants in their own learning.
The role of the educator therefore extends beyond instruction.
Teachers become mentors who guide, challenge, encourage, and help students learn how to learn.
This approach is central to AIC’s broader transformation toward an active, mentorship-based and human-centered learning environment.
Bringing the Digital Learning Environment to Life
Preparing for the new year also included an important step in AIC’s ongoing digital transformation.
During the academic preparation sessions, teachers and mentors received a hands-on introduction and demonstration of Avicenna Online and AIC’s dedicated Learning Management System.
The objective is not simply to digitize existing educational processes.
The platform is intended to bring learning materials, courses, resources, communication, and academic support into a more connected environment and make the learning journey more organized and accessible for students and mentors.
But at AIC, technology is only part of the story.
AIC is human-centered.
Technology and AI are intended to support learning and human interaction, rather than replace them. Smart tools are enablers that help students and educators learn, create, communicate, and grow while preserving the importance of human relationships.
One Question at the Center: What Do Our Students Need?
As the first day approached, the conversation returned repeatedly to the people for whom all these preparations were being made: the students.
A successful academic year cannot be measured only through completed curricula, examinations, or grades.
Students also need an environment in which they can develop curiosity, confidence, independence, responsibility, and a genuine sense of belonging.
At AIC, the goal is to create an environment where students feel:
safe enough to ask questions,
confident enough to make mistakes,
curious enough to explore,
and supported enough to grow.
This philosophy is reflected in AIC’s broader cultural vision of the College as a second home, where learning, human connection, responsibility, curiosity, and growth coexist.
And So It Begins
On September 1, preparation became reality.
The AIC community gathered to officially welcome the 2026/2027 academic year.
Students were welcomed back, teachers and members of the academic team were introduced, and the community heard about the year ahead and the developments that will shape the AIC learning experience.
There was energy in the room, but also a clear sense of purpose.
Because the first day of an academic year is more than the beginning of a new timetable.
It is the beginning of new conversations.
New questions.
New friendships.
New challenges.
New discoveries.
And new opportunities to grow.
A New Chapter for Learning at AIC
The preparation sessions, the development of Avicenna Online, the alignment of teachers and mentors, and the opening gathering are not separate initiatives.
Together, they represent the direction in which AIC is moving.
A learning environment where students participate actively, educators increasingly operate as mentors, intelligent technology supports rather than dominates education, and academic achievement develops alongside confidence, curiosity, responsibility, and human connection.
AIC’s mission is to build an active, human-centered and technology-empowered learning experience in which students learn how to learn, guided by mentors and supported by intelligent environments.
Now the preparation is over.
The students are here.
The conversations have begun.
And the next chapter of AIC is already being written.
