From the Avicenna International College (AIC) in Budapest, I took part in an Erasmus short term mobility course in the Eternal City in the first week of December 2021 as part of our project called Building a network in the field of education within the EU. The name of the course organised by our host Alessandro Gariano from Enjoy Italy was: Cultural Heritage Education and Storytelling. I took this opportunity for a variety of reasons, mainly to acquire novel approaches to education in the 21st century, to get the chance to meet international colleagues for future cooperation to then organise [...]
The time of the visit was carefully chosen to fall on one of the two days special folklore festivals held once a year, called St. Martin’s day, the first day of winter and the last day before the 40 days of Advent, where feast, balls, fairs used to be held. People ate goose and drank new wine and said: „Eat a goose on St. Martin’s Day or you will starve all year”.
Having met at Szell Kalman Square at 10.30, the six AIC students with the guides took a few minute’s rides by bus (16A) to the Royal Castle. We started our tour at the Castle side of the medieval city on Castle Hill, which lies and is still inhabited by locals in the heart of the Capital. The construction of the Castle was started by Béla IV. to build a siege-proof residence against the Mongolian invasion in the mid 13th century. All the successor kings added extensions to the Royal Castle which first wore the sign of the Roman, Gothic, later [...]

ATLAS student residential complex was discussed in particular. Later during the visit, Mayor [...]
AIC students and colleagues met at the Visitor Centre 30 mins before the tour guide started. During this time we arranged some administration. Having gone through strict control at the entrance we were given headsets to wear during the tour. After the English-speaking tour guide had given us an initial description about the historical period of the constructions we were guarded to the City Side Staircase or „Golden Stairway” (building’s Northside), which used to belong to the Upper House. Then the tour continued along a corridor, heavily decorated with marble columns and remarkable statues, which makes a connection towards the [...]
The program started in Heroes’ Square, one of the major squares in Budapest, a site of Unesco World Heritage, built for the National Exhibition during the Millenary Celebrations in 1896.
